In Sri Lanka, there is nothing scarier than being a Tamil person of influence - whether you are a teacher, a school principal, a doctor, a journalist, a politician, or a successful businessman. Ordinary Tamils have learned to keep their heads down, do exactly what their neighbours do, and not make waves. These lessons travelled with them to Toronto and London and Paris - where the LTTE and its supporters continued to take over and monopolize social structures, from refugee relief in the 1980s to newspapers, shops and temples. A few threats, a few smear campaigns, a murder or two, and the lesson is reinforced.
A 2006 report, ‘Funding the Final War’ of the Human Rights watch which tabled numerous threats the LTTE issued to outspoken Tamils began with the above quote. Our protagonist, however, is not a Tamil but a Muslim who loves his motherland.
A leading social figure in the UK, Sayed M.M. Bazeer, the President of the Sri Lankan Muslim Information Centre, London had to live in fear during the height of LTTE war. The fact he was thousands of miles away from the LTTE strongholds in the North of Sri Lanka was hardly reassuring. The threats against him were so fresh that he thought they originated on his doorstep.
His outspokenness against the LTTE and boldness to put these ideas to pen as a writer of both English and Tamil media and deliver highly critical speeches at various forums earned him the wrath of the terror outfit. The fear was so intense, at one time, a police patrol was deployed to cover his house and Scotland Yard took over investigations into his complaints.

அமெரிக்க இரட்டை கோபுர  தாக்குதல்கள்   இடம்பெற்ற தினமான செப்டெம்பர் பதினொன்று 2001  , அமெரிக்காவிலும் அதன் மேற்குலக நேச அணிகளாலும் , அந்நிகழ்வுகள் இடம் பெற்ற நாள் வருடந்தோறும் நினைவு கூரப்பட்டாலும் , இம்முறை அந்நிகழ்வுகள் இடம்பெற்ற பத்தாண்டினை முக்கியத்துவம் வாய்ந்த நினைவு நாளாக நினைவு கூறப்படும் நாளில் (அதற்கு காரண கர்த்தா என குற்றம் சாட்டப்பட்டு கொல்லப்பட்ட ஒசாமா பின் லேடனின் மரணத்துடன் ), அமெரிக்காவினதும் , அதன் நேச அணியிலுள்ள ஏனைய நாடுகளிலும் , குறிப்பாக பிரிட்டன் உள்ளிட்ட ஐரோப்பிய நாடுகளிலும் , ஜனநாயக விழுமியங்கள் தனிமனித உரிமைகள் , அடிப்படை மனித உரிமைகள் , ஆட்புல நியாயாதிக்கங்கள் என்பன எவ்வாறு மீறப்பட்டன என்பதை தொடர்ந்தும் வெளிவரும் ஆதாரங்கள் நிரூபித்து வருகின்றன . விகிலீக்ஸ் மட்டுமல்லாது , புலானாய்வு பத்திரிக்கையாளர்களின் வெளிப்படுத்தல்கள் , பாதிக்கப்பட்ட நபர்கள் சட்டத்தின் துணை மூலம் வெளிக்கொணரும் மர்மங்கள் உலகின்   ஜனநாயக ஜாம்பவான்களான நாடுகளின் நபுஞ்சகத்தனங்களை நாடிபிடுத்துக் காட்டுகின்றன.  

சட்டவாக்கமும் , ஆக்கிரமிப்பு இராணுவ அத்துமீறல்களும் இராக் ஆப்கானிஸ்தான் என்று தொடங்கி இன்று எல்லையற்று சர்வதேச விதிமுறைகளை மீறும் வகையில், நாடுகளின் இறையாண்மையை ஆட்புல அதிகாரத்தை மீறும் வகையில் விஸ்தரிக்கப்பட்டு செல்லும் பின்னனனியில் , இந்தவிதமான ஆபத்துக்கள் குறித்து தமது ஆதங்கத்தை பகிரங்கமாக வெளிப்படுத்த அமெரிக்க சிவில் சமூக செயற்பாட்டாளர்களும் புத்தி ஜீவிகளும் தயங்கவில்லை.  அமெரிக்காவின் செப்டெம்பர் பதினொன்றின் பின்னரான அயல் நாட்டு கொள்கைகள்  , உள்நாட்டு தனிமனித சுதந்திர அத்துமீறல்கள் , அரசியல் நெறிப்படுத்தல்கள் , பிரச்சாரங்கள் , அந்நிய நாட்டு பிரஜைகள் மீதான அத்துமீறல்கள்,  அடக்குமுறைகள் , அடாவடித்தனங்கள் (குவாண்டனாமா உட்பட்ட சிறைவாசங்கள்) என பல பரிமாணங்களை கொண்டதாக ஒரு ஆபத்தான செல் திசையில் பயணிக்க தொடங்கியபோது எங்கள்  மனச் சாட்சியை நாங்கள் மறுக்க மாட்டோம் என்ற அறிக்கை ஒன்றினை அமெரிக்க சிவில் சமூக செயற்பாட்டாளர்கள் , புத்தி ஜீவிகள் சிலரும் வெளியிட்டனர். அதனை தமிழில் மொழியாக்கம் செய்து எனது முன்னுரை ஆக்கத்துடன் "அமெரிக்க மக்களும்

பயங்கரவாதத்தின் மீதான யுத்தமும்" என்ற தலைப்பில் நான் எழுதிய கட்டுரை அக்டோபர் மாதம்   2002 ம்   ஆண்டு “சுயம்” எனும் இலங்கை பத்திரிகையில் பிரசுரிக்கப்பட்டது.  அதனை "செப்டெம்பர் பதினொன்று" பத்தாண்டு நினைவு நாளில் மீள் பிரசுரம் செய்வது அவசியம் என்று கருதுகிறேன்.
