President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Kalinga Indatissa PC has called on the IGP to inform the BASL of the reasons and basis of the arrest of Hejaz Hisbullah, Attorney-at-Law, and member of the BASL.
In a letter addressed to the IGP, the BASL President requests that professional rights of Hisbullah should be given due consideration.
The full text of the BASL chief’s letter to IGP:
“It has been brought to the notice of the BASL that the above named Attorney-at-Law had been arrested by officers attached to the Criminal Investigations Department.

According to the information that we have received, the reasons for his arrest has not been made known, up to now. We have been informed that the arrest is based on certain functions attended to by Mr. Hisbullah in his professional capacity as a member of the Bar.
While the BASL has no intention of disturbing any pending investigation that is being conducted, lawfully, by the authorities, naturally, the BASL is concerned about the wellbeing of Mr. Hisbullah.
We would be extremely grateful if you could direct the investigating officers to ensure;
a. That the professional rights of Mr. Hisbullah is given due consideration,
b. That the BASL is informed of the reasons and the basis of his arrest.”
