Protest tomorrow

"Demonstrate tomorrow
The protests this Saturday 28 November are attracting widespread support and the one in London looks as though it will be big (from 12-2pm in front of Downing Street). Please attend one of these if you can and promote them as widely as possible.

David Cameron presented his case for British bombing of Syria yesterday. No one should be convinced by his speech. He could not explain what British involvement would add to the 14 months of bombing carried out by the US and other members of the coalition. He could not answer whether such bombing would increase the likelihood of terrorism in Britain. He gave a figure of 70,000 'moderate' opposition which is frankly ludicrous, but which he claims comes from intelligence services - reminiscent of the 45 minutes claim over Iraq in 2002. Unfortunately far too many MPs are swayed by such arguments, including it would seem sections of the Shadow Cabinet.

Jeremy Corbyn's letter to MPs saying that Cameron has not made a case for bombing is therefore very welcome. He has a huge mandate as leader, something which Labour MPs should respect. They should also respect that Jeremy has been proved right about previous interventions, and consider the damage done to British politics, particularly by the war in Iraq.

While Cameron is relying on winning over a number of Labour MPs he is not yet confident about winning a vote. He wants cross-party consensus, and that is why he and his cheerleaders in the media are so hostile to those like Jeremy Corbyn who oppose war.

The next three days are critical in this respect.

Everyone who opposes war can do something, and it is urgent that all of us do what we can. There will be protests in all the big cities and many small towns and villages from Cinderford in the Forest of Dean, to Frome in Somerset, Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire, and Lymm Village in Cheshire.

Lobby your MP
This has been very successful, 28,000 have lobbied MPs through the StW site alone. But please keep up the pressure. There is a new lobbying letter so make sure every MP gets it. It takes just 1 minute to lobby your MP using this lobbying tool - please share it far and wide.

Carry on protesting: Day X
It may be that there is a vote in parliament as early as next Wednesday. Stop the War is asking all its supporters to mobilise on the evening before a vote to stop this latest war. Watch this space. We will send out details over the weekend.
